Bike helmets (age 5)
Young children love to ride bikes, to keep them safe here are some tips for choosing a helmet.
Most parents know that children love to ride bicycles and, at some
point, watch with breath held the first ride with the training wheels
removed. Most parents know that heads must be protected by a helmet the
very first time their little one sits on a bike seat. Here are some
tips for choosing a bike helmet:
- Make sure it fits. An adult bike helmet is not suitable for a young child.
- Choose a child or toddler size. If in doubt, consult the advice of those who know how to properly fit and fasten it to the size and shape of the child who will wear it.
- As your child grows, ensure that you regularly check that it still fits correctly.
- Have your child wear it all the time while on a bike - accidents happen in the driveway as well as the road and side walk.
- Bike riding is fun. Falls may be inevitable. Make sure when they do occur that the helmet your child wears is where it belongs – properly fastened to her head!
